Welcome to Cwmtydu-Bay-Wildlife

Choughs are seen often on the cliffs

Choughs were once common. They are returning in numbers to the cliffs off the coast of Wales.

After efforts to increase the local population they are now back breeding in Wales, and can be seen off the cliffs at Cwmtydu.

Their call is unmistakable, they call out their name as they fly over.

Red Kites are a remarkable bird to see. To witness them soaring over the hills is a credit to Wales.

These birds have come back from the point of no return, and once again are back where they belong, thanks to efforts of dedicated landowners, and local communities.

Peregrine are seen perched, watching the skies for something to catch their keen eye.

The Peregrine can be seen on the cliff tops or , if you're quick, racing across the sky.

In September 2003, we saw gannets fishing in the bay while we were watching the seals and the pups.

There is a Grey Heron that perches on one of the cliffs, and Cormorants are always either diving for fish or drying their wings. It has always amazed me that a bird that dives for food, does not have waterproof feathers and has to dry out.
